Students need regular access to an instrument between lessons, but that doesn’t necessarily mean purchasing an acoustic piano before getting started.
A quality digital piano can be an excellent choice for many beginners, particularly when it has 88 weighted keys and a sustain pedal. As students become more advanced, your teacher can help you determine whether your current instrument continues to meet your needs.
Having the instrument at home also makes in-home lessons especially convenient: when the teacher arrives, the student learns on the same piano or keyboard they use for practice throughout the week.
