I just looked over a great book that provides some interesting and helpful insight for Suzuki students and parents. From Suzuki to Mozart provides a short history and facts for each piece in the Suzuki violin repertoire all the way through book 10. These tidbits can really help inspire and motivate students working through a piece, or even looking ahead to future pieces. Historical context takes music out of the vacuum of our narrow experience and enlightens our performances--even for Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star!
My copy's on the way, and here's where to find it online: http://www.amazon.com/Suzuki-Mozart-History-Repertoire-Violin/dp/1479105317
Thanks to Suzuki parent, and budding violinist, Drew, for the tip!
