Violin, Viola & Piano Lessons with Julia L.

Born in Taiwan, Julia started learning the piano at the age of 3 and later began playing the violin and viola at 10. Following her studies in Taiwan, she moved to Singapore and earned her Bachelor's of Music from the National University of Singapore. In 2018 She received her Master’s degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston, studying with Martha Katz, the founding viola member of the Cleveland Quartet. She went on to work with Edward Gazouleas at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. Other teachers and mentors have included Hung-Wei Huang and William Coleman. Over the years, Julia has won several awards and prizes such as 1st prize of American protege International Piano & Strings Competition, Artistic Excellence Award and Jacobs Fellow Award from Jacobs School of Music. She was appointed as the viola principal of the New England Conservatory’s Philharmonia, and her quartet was selected to perform in Jordan Hall for the Borromeo Quartet’s Beethoven Seminar during her time at NEC. Her performances have taken her across the globe, spanning nine countries, three continents, and historic venues including Carnegie Hall. When not immersed in music and music-making, Julia enjoys home cooking and is one of the recipe developers for Kikkoman.
