Piano Lessons with Ray H.
Ray is an accomplished and versatile pianist dedicated to inspiring students of all ages through personalized piano instruction and thoughtful musical collaboration. With a strong foundation in performance and education, Ray has worked his entire life with musicians of all ages, fostering their growth and passion for all types of music. Ray began studying piano at age 5 and quickly developed a love for music. As a teen, he earned a 1+ rating for his piano solo at the region and state solo ensembles, showcasing his technical excellence and expressive artistry. Since high school, he has taught private piano lessons and worked as a music theory teacher at the Utah Piano Conservatory, helping students build the theoretical knowledge to enhance their performance and composition skills.
Ray has worked as a private piano accompanist and teacher, and in college, he accompanied Brigham Young University’s Theatre and Dance Departments, providing professional accompaniment for vocal coaching, musical theatre classes, ballet classes, and theatre showcases. He has sight-read and improvised thousands of classical and musical theatre pieces while mentoring hundreds of students on repertoire, technique, and performance. Ray also taught and mentored youth at musical theatre and dance camps and has served as a ballet pianist for Jacqueline’s School of Ballet, crafting dynamic and inspiring interpretations tailored to dancers’ needs.
Passionate about equitable access to music education, Ray is committed to empowering students from all backgrounds. Because Ray fell in love with piano and music from a young age, he is passionate about helping others experience the joy of creating music and learning to express themselves positively through music. Whether teaching fundamentals or guiding advanced pianists in refining their artistry, he strives to use music as a tool for positive youth development and overall community enrichment. Ray is honored to be a part of the City Strings and Piano team in Washington, DC.
