Violin & Piano Lessons with Jake L.
Born in Plano, Texas and growing up in Taipei, Taiwan and North Texas, Jake L. (林加恩) has been playing and performing music since he was 6 years old. He has performed in many places around the world such as Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and twice in Carnegie Hall. He possesses several 1stprizes from Texas State Solo & Ensemble competitions and a variety of other competitions, and has been highly ranked in every orchestral organization he has had the honor of participating in. He made school history at the University of Indianapolis by becoming the first dual instrument competitor of the annual Concerto Competition hosted by the university’s Symphony Orchestra in 2024, winning with his rendition of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2, Mvt. 1 and finishing in the runner up position with his rendition of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Mvts. 2 and 3. In 2025, Jake further established his musical legacy by becoming the first ever two-time consecutive winner of the USO Concerto Competition, advancing with his rendition of the legendary Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47 Mvt. 1, and advanced to the final round of the Charles Joray Piano Competition in the Spring. Jake’s primary instructors at the collegiate level included Dr. Greg Martin (piano), Professor Jayna Park (violin), and Dr. Steven Rickards (voice). Previous teachers include Mrs. Jennifer Aradhyula (piano), Mrs. Sheng Lin (piano), Dr. Ryan Behan (piano), Ms. Marina, Victoria, and Tatiana Glava (violin). His talents extend far beyond classical music, with competency in many different instruments, songwriting and production in multiple genres, vocal performance in multiple genres, and dance in multiple genres. He underwent the graduate school application process in 2024-2025, and received multiple graduate school offers in Piano Performance, Violin Performance, and Commercial Vocal Performance, a unique feat that is not widely common. His talents also extend beyond the performing arts, as the first athlete in UIndy’s history to compete as both a swimmer and a diver at the NCAA Division II level while receiving All-Academic conference nominations for 8 consecutive semesters, interning with Andretti Global’s INDYCAR team in the Spring of 2024 and driving the pit crew practice car, and speaking multiple languages. He graduated from the University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science in May 2024 and with a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance in May 2025, both with summa cum laude honors and receiving 10 Dean’s List awards throughout his time at UIndy. Jake is a committed Christian and often serves as a part of the worship team at Greenwood Christian Church and Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church. In his free time, Jake enjoys fashion modeling, racing go-karts, and hanging out with friends and family.
