Violin & Viola Lessons with Mattison S.

My name is Mattison and I teach the violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, and guitar! I have about 23 years of experience playing the violin, 13 years experience of teaching it, 12 years for viola, 10 years for piano, 3 years for cello and bass, and about a year for guitar. I auditioned and was accepted into Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, and I have found that the way I teach helps students in the long run be the best versions of themselves they can be. My goal is to build my students up, always. The violin is an extremely difficult instrument. Because of this, there will be many small details to learn. We learn how to relax the body while playing this rigorous instrument, how to hold the bow and not grip it, how to move our fingers at fast and slow tempos and stay in time with those tempos. With time, dedication, and patience, anyone can learn it.

One of the most important things to remember is that this instrument takes time to learn and longer to master. This is something I'll always be talking about so that all of my students don't lose hope about playing their instruments. It's not easy to play and it's easy to lose hope. I don't want my students to go through that. I always try to show what I'm teaching, why it's important, and where it can and will be applied now and in the future.
