Violin, Viola, & Piano Lessons with Isabel H.
Isabel H. is a current graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University studying viola performance and music technology. She is also recent graduate from the Penn State University with a Bachelor's degree in music technology and viola performance. Her experience with both sides of performance and recording gives her a unique perspective working with either focus, making her a well-rounded worker. She has also been particularly interested in musical and visual art programming and using programs such as Pure Data, OpenMusic, MaxMSP, and Supercollider, which are based in common lisp and C. In these programs she has been able to create music using computer-generated tiling canons, code virtual instruments, and create a visualizer that responds to frequency, amplitude, and filters. She has also been exploring Python and Java to use in artistic endeavors.
Her recording experience extends back three years where she first learned how to mix and master room and studio recordings. She have also done work as a Stagehand for Penn State, which has given her a unique opportunity to control live sound and lighting. She has extensive experience recording using programs such as Reaper, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, and Ableton and most recently she has recorded and mixed songs for the groups Project Fusion and Hypercube.
Her performance background has taught her much about small group management, giving and receiving constructive criticism, and looking for details. Focusing on the commonly-overlooked parts of a piece or recording has helped her succeed as a recording engineer and also given her the ability to refine her ear. These skills have given her the ability to run and receive the title of President for Penn State's Viola Society, Vice President for the Arts and Architecture Student Council, and Panelist for the Penn State New Music Festival score submission.
