Piano, Guitar & Voice Lessons with Marquis Davis
For Marquis, music has always been a means to create and connect. From an early age, he discovered an aptitude for music and sought ways to pursue it. From ear training and sight reading, choir classes and musicals, Marquis was encouraged to study music at a university. During the collegiate years, he studied private piano and voice alongside a distinguished roster of faculty from Mason Gross School of the Arts (MGSA), and became a member of the Rutgers University Glee Club (RUGC), one of these most distinguished choral groups in the nation. Through RUGC, Marquis was exposed to works such as Spasyeniye Sodyelal (Chesnokov); Eviva Beviam (Verdi); Gloria (Vivaldi); and many other esteemed pieces from various operas, arias, and compositions. Additionally, he’s had the opportunity to travel as a professional musician with RUGC, touring across Europe from London to Wales, Utrecht to Nijmegen, Oxford and West Gloucestershire - developing a new sense of professionalism and musicianship to a higher degree. Since then, Marquis has relocated to Philadelphia to pursue private music instruction. His piano methods are profound, grounded in traditional techniques proven to develop sight reading, dexterity, and musicianship, while also providing a space for creativity and exploration. In both piano and guitar, Marquis explores music theory and encourages self discovery, providing a pathway to allow the student to find their own ways to create and play music. Marquis hopes that each student will recognize how exciting it can be to learn about music and build a love for creative expression. When he’s not studying music or teaching, Marquis enjoys gardening, walking dogs, and playing Super Smash Bros.
