Violin Lessons with Martin N.
Korean-Canadian violinist Martin N. was born in South Korea and raised in Canada.As a performer, he has appeared in concerts across North America, Europe, and beyond, playing as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. In 2015, Martin made his debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, and since then, he has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras throughout Ontario. Martin has won Grand Prizes at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition and the Frances Walton Chamber Music Competition with the Kodak Quartet. He has been featured on national and international broadcasts, including NPR Live Sessions, King FM Classical Northwest, CBC (Canada), and Radio-Canada among others.
Martin studied under the tutelage of Professor Oleh Krysa at the Eastman School of Music, where he also worked closely with members of the Ying Quartet in their Intensive Chamber Music Seminar. He has worked with members of several esteemed quartets, including the Beethoven, Alban Berg, Formosa, Jupiter, Verona, Calidore, JACK, Pacifica, Brentano, Kronos, American, Harlem, and Emerson Quartets. Martin has also studied with Yonhee Chang, Marcus Scholtes, Lance Ouellete, Salley Koo and, most recently, completed his studies with Lucie Robert as part of the Cuker and Stern Graduate String Quartet residency.
As an orchestral musician, Martin has traveled extensively, performing in prestigious venues across North America, Europe, and beyond. His versatility as a violinist allows him to thrive in various settings, from classical masterworks to contemporary and improvised music.
In addition to his performance career, Martin is a dedicated educator. Over the past seven years, he has maintained an international teaching studio, sharing his expertise with students from around the world. He has held teaching positions at the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Bow Lake Music School, where he is committed to nurturing young talents.
Outside of his musical pursuits, Martin enjoys playing sports such as table tennis, basketball, badminton, and tennis. He currently performs on a violin crafted by Andranik Gaybaryan in 2018.
