Violin Lessons with Julia S.
Julia is a classically trained violinist currently pursuing her Master of Music in Classical Performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.
Originally from Cincinnati, Julia earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of Alabama, where she also completed the Blount Scholars Program, a selective liberal arts honors curriculum. During her undergraduate studies, she performed professionally with the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and appeared in a wide range of productions including local plays, operas, and chamber performances. As a member of both the university’s Early Music Ensemble and Contemporary Ensemble, she developed a deep appreciation for repertoire ranging from 17th-century works performed on period-style instruments to premieres of new compositions.
Julia brings this same versatility and curiosity to her teaching. With experience working with students from elementary through high school, she takes a personalized, student-centered approach that emphasizes empowerment and musical growth. She believes in meeting each student where they are and helping them define and reach their own goals through encouragement, structure, and joy in the learning process.
She is currently based in Harlem, where she lives with her husband and their cat, Basmati.
