Violin & Viola Lessons with Stephen Goist

Violist Stephen Goist comes to New York after several years of performing and teaching experience in his native city of Cincinnati. He has been a member of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra for four seasons and recently joined the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, with which he still performs as a regular member. He served on the faculty of the Preparatory Department at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he taught private lessons and assisted with the New Horizons Orchestra, a beginning string program for retirement-aged adults. He also served as a teacher and volunteer for MYCincinnati, an after school youth orchestra program inspired by El Sistema.

Stephen began studying Suzuki violin at age three with his mother and switched to viola in fourth grade. He completed his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), where he studied with Catharine Carroll Lees and Masao Kawasaki. During his time at CCM, Stephen served as the viola studio's teaching assistant for three years and spent four summers as a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School. An enthusiastic member of the early music community, Stephen recently earned a graduate degree in Baroque Viola through Juilliard’s Historical Performance program and is an active performer and teacher throughout New York City.
