Violin Lessons with Sofia M.

Sofia A. Machuca is a dynamic violinist and violist bringing both classical training and a passion for education to her teaching practice in New York City. A graduate of the prestigious Mannes School of Music, Sofia offers instruction in both violin and viola, specializing in students ages 6 through adult.

Drawing from her rich musical background, Sofia employs a comprehensive teaching approach that combines the renowned Suzuki Method with advanced technical studies including Kreutzer and the Carl Flesch Scale System. For advancing students, she incorporates the sophisticated Tuttle technique, ensuring a well-rounded foundation in string performance.

Sofia's own musical journey began in Puerto Rico, where she demonstrated exceptional talent early on, joining the Conservatory of Puerto Rico's College Level orchestra at just 14 years old. Her dedication to musical excellence led her to participate in prestigious programs including the New England Conservatory's String Summer Intensive and Manhattan School of Music's summer program. During her undergraduate studies at Mannes, she studied under distinguished faculty members Milan Milisavljevic and Daniel Panner, while also receiving chamber music coaching from Rebecca Fischer.

Bilingual in English and Spanish, Sofia creates an inclusive and welcoming learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes proper technique, musical expression, and individual growth, tailoring her approach to each student's unique needs and goals.
