Piano Lessons with Corey C.

Corey C is an American composer/pianist and educator currently based in Queens, New York. As a pianist, Corey has collaborated and performed with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Greater New Haven Woodwind Ensemble, The Da Capo Chamber Players, the Bard College- Conservatory Orchestra, and students at the Brevard Music Festival and the Bowdoin Music Festival, as well as vocalists Dawn Upshaw, Rufus Muller, and Teresa Buchholz. He has won top awards in the Renée B Fisher Piano Competition, The Greater New Haven Woodwind Ensemble Competition, and the Rhode Island Piano Extravaganza Competition. As a former student of the New Haven Neighborhood Music School, he was a three-time First Prizewinner of their annual school-wide Performance Awards Competition for all instruments. He is currently a member of a few NYC-based chamber ensembles, including Random Access Music and the Bard Alumni Ensemble.

As a composer, he has been called “a major composer, maybe even the major composer, of his generation” by The Millbrook Independent. He is a recipient of some of the naMon’s largest awards for young composers, including a Charles Ives Scholarship Award from the American Academy of Arts and LeYers and two ASCAP Morton Gould Awards.

Chang holds dual degrees in Composition and Mathematics from Bard College and a master’s degree in Composition from The Juilliard School, where he was a Morse Teaching Fellow. He recently completed his doctorate at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he was Associate Instructor of Composition, and he continues to serve as the Program Director of the Jacobs Composition Academy Summer Intensive.
