Violin and Viola Lessons with Lauren Siess
Lauren Siess is an NYC-based violist and composer. An avid chamber musician, Lauren performs with ensembles across the country, including Delirium Musicum, Argus Quartet, Shattered Glass, and Mixtape Series.
Lauren has been a member of the Perlman Music Program (PMP) since 2012, working with such artists as Itzhak Perlman, Merry Peckham, Carol Rodland, Kirsten Doctor, and Jeffrey Irvine. In Summer 2020, she served as the Viola Fellow for PMP “Littles” program (virtual), and participated in Ticino Musica “Young Composers Academy” (virtual). Lauren has previously participated in Yellow Barn Program, Banff Centre’s “Ensemble Evolution,” and Keshet Eilon Summer Mastercourse. As a composer, she studies the physical approach to timbre on various instruments, tying together her performance and compositional training. Lauren was a 2020 Hildegard Competition Finalist, earning a premiere by National Sawdust Ensemble (performance date TBD). Passionate about curating concerts, in 2019, she presented middle voice, a concert of five world premieres for viola, including two of her original works.
Lauren recently graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Viola Performance from The Juilliard School as a student of Carol Rodland, and a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship. She is now Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the Mahanaim School, a private college in Huntington, NY; as well as a Teaching Artist with Bronx Arts Ensemble.
