Cello Lessons with Will B.

Will B. is a cellist, performer, and educator pursuing his Master of Music in Cello Performance at the University of Minnesota, where he studies with acclaimed cellist Matt Haimovitz. He earned his Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance from the University of South Dakota where he studied with Dr. Sonja Kraus.

Will is passionate about helping students develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and a lasting enjoyment of music. He believes lessons should be both challenging and encouraging, and he tailors his teaching to each student's individual goals, interests, and experience level. Whether a student is beginning cello for the first time, preparing for an audition or performance, or looking to take their playing to the next level, Will strives to create a supportive environment where students can grow as musicians.

As a performer, Will has experience in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. He served as principal cellist of the University of South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and performed with the USD Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Zusammen. He has also participated in the internationally recognized Round Top Festival Institute and the Fresno Summer Orchestra Academy.

Will's accomplishments include taking first place at the state level of the MTNA Competition in 2025 as well as receiving recognition as the Alternate Winner at the West-Central Division level. He has also performed as a guest soloist with the Washington High School Orchestra, playing Haydn's Cello Concerto in D Major.

Above all, Will hopes to help students discover the joy of making music while developing skills that will stay with them for years to come.
