Violin & Viola Lessons with Katy B.
Katy is an active freelance violinist/violist and teacher, originally from the Kansas City area. As a student, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from Truman State University and a Master's in Viola Performance from the University of Kansas. Since moving to Madison in 2021, she has been greatly enjoying exploring the wealth of musical opportunities throughout the region. Katy can most often be found playing with the Des Moines and Fox Valley Symphonies, rehearsing with her string quartet (Quartet 608), and packing as much theater/opera/ballet pit work into her schedule as she can.
As a teacher, Katy strives to help students create and work toward their personal musical goals, incorporating their own musical interests into their personal musical curriculum as early and often as possible. Whether you're a brand new player who has never seen a stringed instrument before, a beginner hoping to learn enough to jam with a new band, an intermediate player working on music for school orchestra or preparing to audition for youth symphony, an advanced player preparing for all-state or college auditions, or someone without a goal in mind at all, Katy will work with you to determine the best path forward in your violin or viola education.
