Violin, Piano & Guitar Lessons with Tristan McGehee

Tristan McGehee (they/them) is a multi-instrumentalist (violin, viola, cello, string bass, bass guitar, piano), conductor, and composer of a wide range of genres. Born in Basehor, Kansas in 1999, McGehee’s musical life has centered around collaborative projects with Kansas City artists - from international film festivals to video games, and song cycles to chamber ballets. In 2023, McGehee graduated with a double major (BM in Music Composition & Music Theory) from the University of Kansas, and currently is working on their thesis for their MM in Music Composition degree from the same accredited program. Most of their work is centered on writing concert music for symphony orchestras.

As an artist, McGehee finds inspiration from many styles - including bluegrass, rock, pop, classical, gospel, house, and serialist projects. Positions they have held include concertmaster of the University of Kansas University Orchestra, principal violinist of the Vertigo String Quartet, President of the Kansas New Music Guild, and Founding Music Director of the Bluestem Chamber Orchestra. As a Kansas City resident, McGehee is constantly inspired by the sights and sounds of the metropolitan area they call home through communal music-making and fundraising for the Band of Angels via the Ricky McDowell Music Scholarship.
