Piano Lessons with James P.

James P. is a pianist from the music department at Bryan College, and has been studying piano for more than twenty years. He received a financial aid award for music education prior to taking classes, and throughout college he played as an accompanist with the music department, taught piano lessons to children and adults, and entered the community music school, helping with music festivals. His interest in classical music progressed from Beethoven’s piano sonatas, to Chopin’s waltzes and nocturnes, into impressionists like Claude Debussy’s book of preludes, suites, and images. He teaches students of all ages, and enjoys making lessons educational, as the first step, followed by fun, regular practice. His preferred method book is the Alfred’s piano lesson books, which cover every area of piano, including melody, rhythm, and harmony, the fundamentals of music theory, as well as performance practices. In addition to studying piano, James has studied voice, singing in the Bryan College chorale, which went on tour and sang in various performances around the state. He also studied guitar, violin, and other instruments over the years. His goal is to study composers further and to encourage others with the joy of learning piano.
