Piano & Violin Lessons with Janet J.
Janet J. is an experienced piano and violin instructor with more than 30 years of piano teaching experience and over 15 years of violin instruction. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Education from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and is currently completing her Doctor of Education degree, with anticipated completion in 2026. Her strong academic background supports a practical, structured, and engaging approach to music education.
Janet has taught in a wide range of settings, including private studios, music academies, and public schools in Michigan, Arizona, and Nevada. Her experience includes leading school music programs, designing curriculum, mentoring students, and organizing concerts, competitions, and performance events. As a private instructor, she focuses on individualized lessons that address each student’s goals, skill level, and learning style.
Her teaching philosophy combines traditional technique and music theory with contemporary and student-selected repertoire. This approach keeps students engaged while building a solid technical foundation. Janet emphasizes consistency, problem-solving, and musical understanding, helping students develop both confidence and independence.
Janet lives in Grand Rapids with her husband and two cats. Outside of teaching, she enjoys playing tennis, reading, and knitting. She brings a calm, professional presence to her work and is committed to providing high-quality music instruction for students of all ages.
