Eri Isomura, Piano

A second-generation Japanese American and Twin Cities native, Eri Isomura is a piano teacher freelance percussionist, music instructor, music librarian, and music administrator. Eri is passionate about self-expression and building relationships through music. She has been teaching privately for 9 years, and is a member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association as well as the Minneapolis Music Teachers Forum. She currently is on the percussion faculty at St. Olaf College, an administrator and section coach for the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies, and a board member of the Percussive Arts Society Minnesota Chapter. Eri is a founding member of 10th Wave Chamber Collective, a Twin Cities-based ensemble featuring classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries in interdisciplinary settings and in breweries or cafés. She has recently performed in ensembles such as Champagne Confetti, Aliro Voices, Zeitgeist, Mankato Symphony, Exultate, and Wayzata Symphony Orchestra. She performed at the Aspen Music Festival, Bravo! Vail Music Festival and the Tippett Rise Music Festival in “Inuksuit”, an outdoor percussion work. She also performed in the Minnesota Film Score Festival, Refugee Orchestra Project Boston, and Times Two New Music Initiative. She has commissioned and/or premiered works for marimba by composers such as Ivan Trevino, Yvette Jackson, Ian A Cook, Elwyn A Fraser Jr., Michael Betz, and others. Eri studied with David Hagedorn and Phil Hey at St. Olaf College, graduating with a B.M. in Percussion Performance with distinction. She completed her M.M. in Percussion Performance at The Boston Conservatory under the tutelage of Keith Aleo, Doug Perkins, Samuel Z. Solomon, and Nancy Zeltsman.
