Teaching Philosophy

Learning and teaching music have been my life’s biggest joy and motivater. I hope to share my enthusiasm for music with my students so that they may also experience the fun of music making!

While it is important to take the art and craft of music seriously, it is equally important to have a supportive and positive environment. I have noticed that students who improve and feel a sense of accomplishment by practicing have the most fun in music. Music is a family journey and I often encourage the entire family to support their goals and learn together to make it more fun instead of an obligation or chore. I also love incorporating fun games and activities into the lessons for the younger students.

I believe the benefits of learning and playing the violin far reach just musical skills. It positively impacts learner’s cognitive development, emotional resilience, motor, and social skills, and life skills such as patience and discipline all of which permeate into their lives both in and out of school or work.

My teaching approach is a mix of teaching systems to fit each specific student’s learning needs. Ultimately my goal is to teach my students how to take ownership of their own learning through productive practice and developing a keen ear for good music.
