Cello and Piano Lessons with Runen L.
Runen began her musical path at the age of nine and soon distinguished herself as a rising young cellist. In 2018, she earned second prize at the 3rd Hong Kong International Strings Competition, followed by first prize in the Cleveland Institute of Music International Academy’s solo competition the next year.
Equally devoted to collaborative music-making, Runen is an active chamber musician and a member of the Shenzhen Cello Association. In 2018, her cello quartet signed with ACOrange and performed for audiences exceeding 10,000 people across seven cities during the “Sound of Laurel” tour. The ensemble’s success led to the 2021 release of their debut album Hallo Cello, produced in partnership with Tencent Music and accompanied by a series of music videos.
In 2023, Runen was invited to perform at Chamber Music Dolomiti in northern Italy, where she collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists. That same summer, she received the cello fellowship at the Britt Festival Orchestra. Her diverse musical journey has also taken her to festivals including NYO-China, the Cuban American Youth Orchestra Ambassador Program, the Sitka Cello Seminar, Jhao-Yin Academy, the Keshet Eilon International Master-Course in Israel, and the Ascent International Chamber Music Festival.
Runen received her early training at the Shenzhen Arts School under Professor Yihao Zhang, former principal cellist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. She later completed her bachelor’s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music, supported by both the CIM Institution Scholarship and a Recognition Award. Currently, she continues her studies at CIM in the master’s program under the mentorship of Dr. Melissa Kraut.
Alongside her performance career, Runen is passionate about teaching and is a registered member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. When she isn’t playing the cello, she enjoys discovering new restaurants and exploring crystal shops.
