Violin and Viola

Peter Ayuso, violin and viola, recently graduated with a Master of Music degree in Viola Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music where he studied with Lynne Ramsey. Peter graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with both a High School Diploma and a Bachelor of Music degree a concentration in viola performance. During his time at UNCSA, he studied with and served as teaching assistant to Sheila Browne.

Recently, Peter attended the Scotia Festival of Music in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he worked with award-winning composer Philip Glass to create a new edition of Glass’s String Quartet No. 2. In past summers, he attended the Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival with a full tuition scholarship as a Young Artist Fellow, the Aspen Music Festival and School as a recipient of the Thomas S. Kenan Institute fellowship, and as a scholarship student at several other music festivals. While attending these programs, he studied with prominent artists such as Kim Kashkashian, Ronald Copes, and James Dunham.

As a staunch proponent of chamber music, Peter is a founding member of the newly formed Vaso String Quartet; a string quartet that is dedicated to promoting underrepresented composers and contemporary music. He has performed in the Rose Studio as part of a program run by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, toured Spain with his former string quartet, the Giannini Quartet, and collaborated with artists such as Wu Man, Yo-Yo Ma, and Ida Bieler. He has studied chamber music with members of the Emerson, Melos, Juilliard, Cavani, and Cleveland Quartets.

As a dedicated teacher, Peter has held numerous private teaching positions. These include roles such as primary instructor of violin and viola at the Cleveland School of the Arts, viola studio teaching assistant at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Young Artist chamber music coach at the Adult Chamber Music Institute at Kneisel Hall. He teaches both violin and viola using the Suzuki method.
