Violin Lessons with Amy Boyd

Amy Boyd is a Chicago based violinist. She received both her Masters Degree and Professional studies Diploma at Mannes School of Music under professors Lewis Kaplan and Yibin Li. Ms. Boyd also received her Bachelor's Degree of Music with Honors at Mannes under Dr. Chin Kim. Upon graduation, Amy was a recipient of the Mannes School of Music Dean’s Award for both her Bachelors and Professional Studies Diploma.

During her collegiate years she has been awarded various scholarships including merit based scholarships from Mannes for both her Undergraduate and Masters degrees, as well as the Anna May Day Scholarship, and Son’s and Daughter’s Scholarship by Stanley B&D.

An avid performer, Ms. Boyd has performed as a soloist playing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with the University of Texas Chamber Orchestra with violist Sergio Raul Lozano, under the baton of Terrence Frazor. She was also the Mannes Extension Division Concerto Competition Winner for 2013 with the Barber Violin Concerto. She has also been interviewed and featured by Texas Public Radio’s Classical Oasis.

As a well rounded musician, Ms. Boyd has incorporated working in different types of music into her life such as world music, rock and new music. She also has explored composition and collaboration with composers.

She has been a featured soloist with Mariachi Vargas de Tecatilán and performed with the famous rock band Kansas and the Martha Graham Dance Company. Ms. Boyd was also a member of the world music group Mango Moon until the group was disbanded in 2015 due to the death of Co founder and Violist, Christopher Parsons. The group recorded the soundtrack to the documentary film Vamos al Norte.

During her last semester Ms. Boyd had the opportunity to work with Jennifer Koh and composer Ryan Key to explore new music. Key composed a work for her titled Stolen Goods loosely based on the Adagio from Bach G minor violin sonata which she premiered in December. As a composer, she was selected for a scholarship by NPR to attend Composition Seminars led by Dr. Daniel Romaine.

She has played in renowned spaces such as Alice Tully, City Center, The Tobin Center, The Majestic Theater, The Aztec Theater, and Carnegie Hall. Ms. Boyd currently plays for various orchestras in New Jersey and New York City and small chamber ensembles. Amy has performed in Masterclasses for William Preucil, Gil Shaham, Jeffrey Multer and Melissa White.

Ms. Boyd enjoys teaching young violinists, and was a Teaching Assistant at HCYO and YOSA Summer Camps. Ms. Boyd is extremely passionate about keeping the violin tradition alive and sharing Classical music with her students.
