Violin & Viola Lessons with Dawson Y.

Dawson Y is a violist and dedicated violin/viola educator who is enthusiastic about helping students pursue their musical passions. He believes music lessons should be accessible and tailored to each student’s needs. As a former student of a local community music school, Dawson believes in emphasizing the interests of each student and combining that with a strong technical foundation. Dawson’s own musical interests began at a young age through film music, especially through his favorite movie series, Star Wars. This early inspiration influenced his performance career and continues to guide his wish for students to perform music that inspires them.

Dawson earned a Bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2023 where he studied with Ulrich Eichenauer. He also holds a Master’s degree in Viola Performance from Boston University under the tutelage of Michelle LaCourse. Currently, Dawson is pursuing a Post-Master’s Certificate at DePaul University, studying with Ann Marie Brink.

In addition to teaching and performing throughout the Chicago area, Dawson has a deep passion for reading, collecting vinyl records, and spending time with his cat, Tobi.
