Xuan He, Piano

 A versatile pianist, Xuan He has performed in venues across four continents. He has been featured as a soloist with Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Northwestern Philharmonic, Northwestern Baroque Music Ensemble, Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra, and Bowling Green Philharmonia. An avid collaborative artist, he has appeared in concerts with orchestras and ensembles in the U.S., Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands.

     He was a prize winner at various national and international competitions, including Kerikeri International Competition in New Zealand, Wideman International Piano Competition, the MTNA Young Artist Competition (East Central Division), St. Petersburg Lira International Music Festival and Competition in Russia, ZhongSin International Music Competition in Singapore, Kawai China National Piano Competition, and concerto competitions at all schools he attended.

     In the past summers he has participated in festivals including Aspen Music Festival, Bowdoin
International Music Festival, and summer academies in Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, and Spain,
studying with renowned pianists such as Klaus Hellwig, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Robert Levin, Menahem Pressler, Murray Perahia, among others.

     He strives to bring music to the community by performing and teaching. He has performed in various retirement homes and churches, taught piano lessons in Chicagoland, and given both private and group piano lessons at Northwestern University as a teaching assistant. Currently working as the pianist and organist at Arlington Street Church in Boston, he has previously served as the music director at Nothwestern University Lutheran Campus Ministry, as the organist at Sint-Johannes Geboortekerk in Amsterdam, and as the pianist at Sinai Christian Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago.

     He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bowling Green State University with Robert Satterlee and hismaster’s degree and a doctorate from Northwestern University with Alan Chow. A full-scholarship recipient and a graduate with highest distinction at both universities, he also studied historical musicology, harpsichord, organ, conducting, and several languages (German, French, Italian). As a student of Menno van Delft and Richard Egarr, he spent a year in the Netherlands studying early keyboards at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
