Guitar Lessons with Jake S.

Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Jake S. has always had a passion for music, and began playing guitar at 9 years old. Throughout his musical journey, Jake has found deep fulfillment in helping others learn music and watching them grow through it. In addition to playing guitar, he also plays bass and drums, and has been performing in bands since arriving in Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. Graduating in May 2025, with a degree in Professional Music with a concentration in Music Production.

While his main focus is guitar, Jake draws inspiration from a wide range of styles — from metal and rock to indie, hip-hop, and jazz fusion. He’s performed over 35 shows with his bands Boarzoy, Juicebox, and Shepherds Sling, and is currently recording a second full-length album.

Teaching has become one of Jake’s greatest joys. He currently teaches music to preschoolers at School is Cool in Boston, and previously served as the lead music instructor at Darlington Arts Center’s summer camp, working with kids ages 3–12 and leading full weekly performances. Jake also spent several summers as a counselor-in-training, building a strong foundation in working with children, communicating with parents, and leading group activities with confidence and care.

Jake believes every student learns differently, and builds lessons to meet each child where they’re at. He aims to make learning guitar fun, inspiring, and accessible — combining strong fundamentals with creativity, encouragement, and real-world musical context. His goal is not only to help students grow as musicians, but to help them develop confidence and experience joy through music.

Outside of teaching and performing, Jake also writes, produces, and records original music, and has experience in songwriting, engineering, music theory, and sound design.
