Violin & Piano Lessons with Ashley K.

Ashley studies with Professor HieYon Choi at the Peabody Institute of Music and studies Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University. Ashley was formerly a student of Dr. James Giles at Northwestern University and Dr. Matt Hagle at the Music Institute of Chicago, and was a scholarship fellow at the Music Institute of Chicago’s Academy, a training center for advanced pre-college musicians. Ashley has performed on many renowned stages including Carnegie Hall, the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the Studebaker Theater, and the Miller Theater. Additionally, she has performed in several parts of Italy.

Most recently, Ashley was named a three time National YoungArts Foundation winner in 2019, 2020, and 2021, the 2022 and 2024 MTNA Maryland Young Artist Piano Competition winner, the 2021 MTNA Illinois Senior Piano Competition Winner, the 2020 DePaul Concerto Competition winner, and a performer at the Young Steinway Concert Series. As a soloist, she has performed with esteemed orchestras including the Oistrakh Symphony, the MostArts Festival Orchestra, and the EDR orchestra. In addition, Ashley was invited to perform “Carnival of the Animals” at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park with the Grant Park Orchestra. Ashley was featured on WFMT’s “Introductions” several times and in 2019, she was broadcast for a live performance performing works of Chopin, Rochberg, Mozart, and many more. In 2017, Ashley was selected as one of eight finalists at the Mostarts Festival at the Miller Theater in New York, where she was the recipient of the Audience Favorite award for “The Most Moving Performance of a Mozart Concerto”. Additionally, she was an award winner in the open senior division at the Walgreens National Concerto Competition, the Crain-Maling CSO Young Artists Competition, and was the second prize winner of the Emilio Del Rosario Concerto Competition where she was featured on WFMT again. Ashley was the first prize winner of the Sejong Music Competition in two divisions and also received the best interpretation award as well as the first prize of two divisions at the Society of American Musicians competition. As an avid chamber musician, Ashley and her piano trio “Insieme” were semi finalists at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and were the overall winners at the Midwest Young Artists Chamber Competition in 2020. She has taken part in the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in 2019.

Ashley also studied violin with Dr. Hye-Sun Lee at the Music Institute of Chicago. She served as concertmaster of her school’s symphony orchestra and participated in orchestral events like the Illinois Music Education Association. With violin, she has also received several merit scholarships including the Tim Estberg Award and the Music Institute of Chicago Merit Scholarship and she is a first violinist in Hopkins Symphony Orchestra.
