Piano, Guitar & Violin Lessons with Cheryl F.

Cheryl “Cherry” F. began learning piano at the age of four, and has been passionate about music from the start. Wanting to go beyond just piano, she took on violin and guitar lessons during middle school. By the time she graduated high school, she had mastered all three instruments at the highest level of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Festival, earning scores of 96 in violin, 98 in piano, and 100 in classical guitar for three consecutive years.

Realizing her particular talent in classical guitar, Cheryl began participating in competitions, notably winning first prize in the Charleston International Baroque Competition. At the same time, she joined the prestigious Long Island Youth Orchestra for violin, where she was asked to be a guitar soloist. She found many other opportunities in high school, where she competed nationally in a string quartet and became the piano soloist for the symphony orchestra, also taking on violin and piano students.

Cheryl is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance at the Peabody Conservatory in addition to her Biomedical Engineering major at Johns Hopkins University. She has had the privilege of working with world-renowned guitarists including Thomas Viloteau, Meng Su, and David Russell, and currently studies under Franco Platino. In addition to classical music, she also plays electric guitar in a rock band, performing at school events.

As a teacher, she strives to create the same fun and inspiring experience she had growing up, fostering a lifelong love of music in her students. Her lessons incorporate music theory to deepen understanding and build strong sight-reading skills. She places a strong emphasis on proper technique from the very beginning, helping students develop healthy playing habits and avoid injuries as they progress.
