Piano & Voice Lessons with Calie G.

Calie is a passionate and experienced piano teacher with a lifelong dedication to music education, creativity, and student development. With over 15 years of teaching experience, she brings a unique blend of classical training, pop and rock performance, and a deep understanding of diverse learning needs to every lesson.

A graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Calie’s academic background includes intensive studies in music theory, performance, songwriting, and the history of musical innovation. She was actively involved in various ensembles during her undergraduate years, including CHoosE A Cappella, University Singers, and community organizations such as Phi Sigma Pi and Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. She later earned a K-12 Special Education Endorsement from Old Dominion University, equipping her with the tools to teach students with ADHD, Autism, emotional disabilities, and reading/writing challenges.

As a private instructor, Calie has worked with students ranging in age from 4 to 89. She taught at Stacy’s Music for nearly a decade and currently teaches independently through Calie Garrett Music. Her teaching approach is student-centered, blending structured curriculum like Alfred’s Basic Piano Library and Faber methods with creative elements like improvisation, songwriting, and ear training. Her goal is not just to teach piano, but to guide students in discovering their unique musical voice.

In addition to her work as a teacher, Calie is an accomplished singer-songwriter and recording artist specializing in piano-driven pop and rock music. Her deep musicality, strong communication skills, and nurturing presence make her a favorite among families and students of all backgrounds.

Whether you're a beginner just starting out or a more advanced player seeking to grow musically, Calie offers a supportive, engaging environment where creativity and personal growth thrive.
