Violin Lessons with Iris D.
Iris is a violinist pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Michigan, where she studies with Professor Aaron Berofsky. A recent graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, Iris studied classical violin with Mary Beth Rhodes Woodruff and jazz violin with Christopher Glassman, whose mentorship continues to inspire her diverse musical interests. Her foundational training was under Henry Gronnier at the Colburn School, where she developed her strong technical skills and expressive artistry.
Throughout her career, Iris has performed as a soloist at prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center, Kresge Auditorium, and Studzinski Hall. She often serves as a concertmaster, performing under renowned conductors like Maestro Jung-Ho Pak and Gavriel Heine. She has also participated in leading music festivals, including the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Heifetz International Music Institute, and Center Stage Strings, where she collaborated with distinguished musicians and explored both classical and contemporary repertoire.
An accomplished musician and teacher, Iris has led sectionals, taught beginner students, and worked to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment. In addition to her private studio, Iris also works for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as a mentor to Civic Youth Ensemble students.
Iris performs on a 1925 Carl G. Becker violin that is generously loaned to her, which contributes to her warm, rich sound. Dedicated to excellence in both technique and interpretation, she continues to grow as an artist, aiming for a future as a professional violinist and educator.
