Cello Lessons with Ana Lei
Ana Lei is a New York based cellist and teacher originally from Caracas, Venezuela. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music performance from the University of Louisville, where her primary teacher was Paul York. She is currently finishing her Master’s Degree in music performance from NYU under the tutelage of Marion Feldman. She is the Principal Cellist of NYU’s Symphony Orchestra and Broadway Orchestra under the direction of Ted Sperling and John Miller. Recent performances include The White House Historical Association’s 60th Anniversary Gala for Jill Biden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Ana has attended several prestigious summer programs including Orford Music Festival, Meadowmount School of Music, and Interlochen under the tutelage of John Kadz, Johanne Perron, Amit Peled, and Jonathan Koh.
In addition to her graduate studies at NYU, Ana is an active performer and freelancer in the NYC area. As a teacher, she works with students from young beginner to advanced levels. Her upbringing as a student with the world renowned Suzuki Method influences her teaching today, with an emphasis on developing proper posture, tone, technique and aural skills. She believes that every child can succeed given the right teaching environment, and that the study of music should be fun! In addition to teaching children, Ana is an adjunct faculty member at NYU teaching cello to non-majors.
