Laura Gardner was born and raised in Bexley, Ohio and began piano lessons at the age of 6. She found her passion performing as a cellist, and upon graduation from Bexley High School she pursued a degree in Music Education at the Ohio State University. While at OSU, Laura joined many musical organizations including NAfME, ASTA, and OMEA. She attended OMEA conferences in Cleveland and Columbus, the ASTA conference in Louisville, and the MidWest Clinic in Chicago. Laura served as the Vice President of the OSU Chapter of ASTA, teaching orchestra and helping organize events for students to learn more about string instruments. As a part of ASTA, Laura helped foster a program with the OSU School for the Blind, teaching students how to play various string instruments. She also began teaching individual students in the Columbus area as a private studio instructor. During her senior year at OSU, Laura student taught with the Hilliard schools, and in May of 2015, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from OSU with a degree in Music Education. During the next year, Laura substitute taught in various Central Ohio districts, including long term maternity leave coverage for her mentor teacher Sara Given at Hilliard Heritage Middle School. Laura was then hired as Orchestra Director for the Zanesville City School District, teaching at three elementary schools, a middle school, and high school group.
